India runs 2,117 Global Capability Centres

India is the world's largest hub for Global Capability Centres. 2,117 GCCs across roughly 3,728 delivery units employ about 2.36 million people and generate around $98.4 billion in FY26 revenue, with the workforce projected to reach 2.8 million by 2030. They hire engineering, data, product, finance, cybersecurity and operations talent every year, at volume. This guide explains what a GCC is, how it differs from an IT services company, which cities and roles hire the most, what GCC roles pay, and how to land one.

    What is a GCC?

A Global Capability Centre is an offshore office that a multinational sets up and owns to do its own core work. Not to sell services to other companies. Instead of outsourcing software, analytics or finance to a vendor, the parent builds its own team in India and runs it as an extension of head office.

You will also see GCCs called GIC (Global In-house Centre), captive centre (the older term, because the centre is captive to one parent), or GBS / Shared Services when the centre also handles finance, HR and back-office operations across the group.

The defining feature is ownership. A GCC works for exactly one company, its parent. A GCC for a global bank builds that bank's trading and risk platforms. A GCC for a car maker builds that company's connected-vehicle software. You are a direct employee of the multinational or its Indian subsidiary, not of a middleman.

Why this matters for your career: GCC roles tend to offer product ownership, stable long-term roadmaps, direct exposure to global teams, and compensation benchmarked against the parent company rather than a services margin.

GCC vs captive vs service company

These terms get mixed up constantly. The clean distinction:

  1. Who you work for. GCC: one multinational parent. Services company: a vendor with many clients.
  2. What you build. GCC: the parent's own products and platforms. Services: whatever the current client contract requires.
  3. Project stability. GCC: long-lived product roadmaps. Services: rotates when contracts change.
  4. Career narrative. GCC: deep domain plus product ownership. Services: broad exposure across many clients.
  5. Pay benchmark. GCC: against the global parent. Services: against services-industry bands.
  6. GCC and captive centre mean the same thing. Captive is just the traditional name. GIC is another synonym. The real contrast is captive vs service company.

Rule of thumb: if the company on your offer letter is the same brand whose product you are building, it is a GCC. If the company on your offer letter is a vendor building for someone else's brand, it is a services role.

Cities with the most GCC jobs

GCC hiring clusters in a handful of metros with deep tech talent and established ecosystems. Each link below is a live, continuously-updated feed of openings.

    Tier-1 hubs, largest volumes:

  7. GCC jobs in Bengaluru: /gcc-jobs/bengaluru. India's GCC capital. The single largest concentration of engineering, data and product GCCs.
  8. GCC jobs in Hyderabad: /gcc-jobs/hyderabad. Fast-growing, especially strong for cloud, data platforms and pharma or life-sciences GCCs.
  9. GCC jobs in Pune: /gcc-jobs/pune. Deep in automotive, engineering R&D and BFSI.
  10. GCC jobs in Chennai: /gcc-jobs/chennai. Strong in fintech, manufacturing and product engineering.
  11. Delhi NCR belt: /gcc-jobs/gurugram, /gcc-jobs/noida, /gcc-jobs/delhi.

Western and emerging hubs: /gcc-jobs/mumbai (BFSI, capital markets, finance), /gcc-jobs/ahmedabad, /gcc-jobs/kolkata, /gcc-jobs/coimbatore, /gcc-jobs/kochi.

Which city should you target? If you want maximum choice and can relocate, Bengaluru and Hyderabad have the most openings. If you have a domain specialisation, match the city to the industry. Pune for automotive and engineering, Mumbai for BFSI, Chennai for manufacturing and fintech. Each city page shows the live count, the companies hiring now, the pay band and the most in-demand skills for that market.

    Browse by role

GCCs span nearly every global industry: banking and financial services, retail and e-commerce, semiconductors, automotive, healthcare and pharma, airlines and travel, consulting, enterprise software. Rather than list brand names that change with hiring cycles, browse the live employer list on any city or role page. GCC ERA surfaces the top hiring GCCs for each market directly from current openings.

  12. Software Engineer: /gcc-jobs/role/software-engineer
  13. Data Engineer: /gcc-jobs/role/data-engineer
  14. Data Scientist: /gcc-jobs/role/data-scientist

  24. Each role page lists the GCCs currently hiring, the typical experience range, the salary band and the skills that appear most often in job descriptions.

    GCC salaries in India

GCC compensation is generally benchmarked against the global parent, which is why GCC pay is often competitive with, and frequently ahead of, services-industry bands for the same role and experience.

Concrete numbers, annual basic salary in INR lakhs, national:

  25. Software and digital engineering: 10-28 LPA at 1-5 years, 40-350 LPA at 15-25 years.
  26. Data engineering at an MNC or GCC: 25-35 LPA at 1-5 years, 75-120 LPA at 15-25 years.
  27. Cybersecurity, risk and compliance in a captive GCC: 25-45 LPA at 5-10 years, 75-140 LPA at 25+ years.
  28. Record-to-Report finance operations: 12-25 LPA at 1-5 years, 65-170 LPA at 25+ years.
  29. GCC site head, large centre: 140-450 LPA at 15-25 years.
  30. Those exclude bonuses, variable pay and ESOPs. Full tables in the GCC Salary Report 2026 at /blog/gcc-salary-report-2026.

For a personalised estimate by role, city and company, Salary Intelligence at /salaryintel is free. Role-and-city pages: /gcc-salary/software-engineer/bengaluru, /gcc-salary/data-scientist/hyderabad, /gcc-salary/product-manager/pune, /gcc-salary/devops-engineer/chennai, /gcc-salary/finance-analyst/gurugram.

How to get a GCC job

    1. Target the right roles. Use the city and role pages to find openings that match your experience range. Do not spray applications. Pick roles where your skills line up with what appears most often in the job descriptions.

    2. Check the pay before you invest time. Look up the band for your role and city at /salaryintel so you apply at the right level and negotiate from an informed position. Free.

    3. Fix your resume for the specific role. GCCs screen at scale, often with keyword-aware filters. A resume tuned to the target role improves callback rates. Build or upgrade yours at /cv-studio; the editor is at /newcvgen. The live ATS score and job-description match are free to use. The full AI CV Generator is ₹2,399 per year, or included in the Edge Plan.

    4. See how your CV ranks against live roles. AI Job Match at /imadvance reads your CV and returns ranked GCC openings with a match score and reason, plus a GCC readiness score, an ATS score and a skills-gap list. Sign-in required. One free run. Unlimited matching is ₹1,499 per year, or included in the Edge Plan.

    5. Get a full readout of where you stand. The Career Intelligence Report at /career-intelligence-report turns your CV into a structured, recruiter's-eye assessment with salary benchmarks, target companies and an action plan. ₹599 per report. A free sample is at /journey/cir-sample.html, no sign-up.

    6. Prepare for the interview. GCC loops usually mix a technical round, a system or domain round and a behavioural round. Practising against realistic questions is the single biggest lever most candidates ignore.

    7. Apply and follow up. Apply through the live openings on your city or role page, tailor a short note to the specific team, and follow up. Fresh roles appear continuously.

If you want most of the above in one purchase, the Edge Plan is ₹1,999 per year and includes the AI CV Generator, AI Job Match, one Career Intelligence Report, five Prep Plans and one premium voice mock interview.

    GCC interview prep

GCC interview loops are structured and repeatable, which means they reward preparation. A typical loop:

  31. A technical, coding or domain round. Data structures and problem-solving for engineers. Case or SQL rounds for data and analytics. Scenario rounds for finance and product.
  32. A system design or domain-depth round for mid and senior roles.
  33. A behavioural round. "Tell me about a time" questions mapped to the parent company's leadership principles.
  34. The candidates who convert practise out loud against realistic questions and act on the feedback. Two ways to prepare on GCC ERA: a Prep Plan built from your CV and the job description at /products/#prep (₹499 for five plans), and a live GCC-Grade Mock Interview at /products/#premium-voice (₹1,099 per session), a real-time voice mock with a scored debrief.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is a GCC?

A Global Capability Centre is an offshore office that a multinational owns and operates to do its own core work, such as software engineering, data, product, finance or cybersecurity, instead of outsourcing it to a vendor. In India, GCCs are also called GICs or captive centres. You are a direct employee of the multinational's own centre, not of a third-party services provider.

    What does GCC stand for?

Global Capability Centre, sometimes spelled Center. It is the in-house, offshore captive centre a global company runs in a location like India to build and operate its own technology and business functions.

How many GCCs are there in India?

2,117 GCCs across roughly 3,728 delivery units, employing about 2.36 million people, per the Zinnov-NASSCOM India GCC Landscape 2026. The workforce is projected to reach 2.8 million by 2030.

What is the difference between a GCC and an IT services company?

A GCC works for exactly one company, its parent multinational, and builds that company's own products. An IT services company is a vendor that builds software and delivers services for many external clients under contract. In a GCC your employer and the brand you build for are the same. GCCs typically offer more product ownership, longer-lived roadmaps and pay benchmarked against the global parent.

Is a GCC the same as a captive centre or GIC?

Yes. All three describe the same model: an offshore centre owned by and dedicated to a single parent company. Captive is simply the older term.

Which Indian cities have the most GCC jobs?

Bengaluru and Hyderabad have the largest volumes, followed by Pune, Chennai and the Delhi NCR belt. Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Coimbatore and Kochi also have active GCC hiring.

What salary do GCC jobs in India pay?

It depends heavily on role and experience. Core software and digital engineering runs 10-28 LPA at entry and 40-350 LPA at 15-25 years, annual basic. Shared-services operations roles start around 10-25 LPA. GCC BPO operations start around 4-7 LPA. Full tables in the GCC Salary Report 2026.

How do I get a GCC job in India?

Target roles that match your experience on a city or role page, tune your resume for the specific role at /cv-studio, check the pay band at /salaryintel, run AI Job Match at /imadvance to see which live roles fit, and practise with a mock interview before the loop.

What roles do GCCs hire for?

Software engineering, data engineering, data science, analytics, product management, DevOps and SRE, QA, frontend engineering, finance, HR, cybersecurity and UI/UX design, among others.
